Detroit Lions Mailbag On Lions vs. Bills and The Future Of Taylor Decker
One of the biggest games each year for the Detroit Lions is the annual Thanksgiving Day game hosted by the Lions and is seen by millions. The traditional games give an opportunity for the world to watch the Detroit Lions while enjoying the holiday with family and friends. In the last couple of years, the Detroit Lions have lost on this special day and have looked less than stellar to the viewers watching the game. In 2022, the Detroit Lions are scheduled to face one of the best teams in the NFL The Buffalo Bills on Thanksgiving.
Currently, the betting odds of the Detroit Lions pulling off a victory are overwhelmingly low. The majority of oddsmakers, national media, local media, and the Lions fanbase believe the Detroit Lions will lose handily on this day. Bills a Superbowl contending team facing a team in Detroit, that has only won three games in 2021, seems logical. With that said, can the Detroit Lions pull off an upset victory on Thanksgiving? Is it possible for the Lions to defeat a team that by all accounts has more talent? The answer is yes. Of course, the Lions can beat the Bills. Last year, the Lions defeated the Arizona Cardinals who were a playoff team and were considered superior. With all of that said, in reality, the Bills are a better team. They should be favored to win and most likely will win. The Bills are a more complete team and the talent is far better compared to the Lions’ talent. But, never say never.
Transitioning to a different topic, what is the future of Lions LT Taylor Decker? Is Taylor Decker the man to hold down the blind side for QB Jared Goff for the next couple of years? The Detroit Lions drafted Penei Sewell in 2021 to be the anchor of the Lions’ offensive line for a decade. In College, Penei Sewell was great manning down the blind side for the Ducks. Considered one of the best tackle prospects in years, the idea of keeping him on the right side for the foreseeable future seems not ideal.
Taylor Decker the current left tackle, as of recent, has had issues with injuries resulting in less play for the Lions’ starting lineup. If Taylor Decker continues to have injury concerns, should the Lions look to move Penei Sewell to left tackle and trade Taylor Decker for draft capital? General Manager Brad Holmes and Head Coach Dan Campbell must consider this option after the 2022 NFL season. The importance of continuity of the offensive line is underrated and vital to the success of an NFL offense. If Decker cannot maintain his health, the Lions should look to move him and place Sewell at left tackle.
