It Is Time to Draft a QB In 2023
The Detroit Lions are the worst team in the NFL, with a record of one win and five losses.
They hold the first overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft.
It is time to draft a franchise quarterback who will become the face of the franchise. Quarterback Jared Goff is not the long-term solution for the Lions.
Goff has turned the ball over six times in the past two games. This past Sunday, Goff threw two bad interceptions and fumbled the football twice. Also, Goff has shown an inability to have pocket awareness when a pass rush is coming, resulting in sacks and turnovers.
The Goff experiment has failed. It will not get easier for Goff and the Lions as they have the eighth-hardest schedule in the NFL.
One of the benefits of having the worst record in the NFL is that team has the first overall pick in the coming NFL draft. In this future draft, multiple talented QBs will be eligible to be drafted. In 2023, two QBs are considered top prospects who can become franchise players.
Herman Moore on drafting a QB (0:37)
“Without a doubt, the Lions have to go after a quarterback. If they do anything other than that, it makes zero sense to me.”
Bryce Young, QB, Alabama
Quarterback Bryce Young may be the most NFL-ready QB in the draft. He is a dual-threat mobile QB who can run but also has one of the most accurate arms in football.
One of the best aspects of Young is he has the “IT” factor. Young has played in big games and was the reason they won those games. Also, Young played with Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams in college and attended the same school as Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. The connections are there.
C.J. Stroud, QB, Ohio
Quarterback C.J. Stroud is a big QB at 6’3″ and 218 pounds, with a strong arm that can fling the football into tight windows. He is a mobile QB who can use his legs but prefers to throw the football. He can take the big hit and dish hits back to the defense.
Both these players would be solid for the Lions in the draft. Given the Lions are the worst team in the league, take advantage and get the best player in the draft.
