Lions Dominate At WR and Not So Much On Defense
The Detroit Lions wide receivers have been the stars of the Detroit Lions 2022 training camp. With weapons such as DJ Chark, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Josh Reynolds, Kalif Raymond, QUintez Cephus, and Jameson Williams, they can dominate in 2022. One of the biggest strengths of this team is how they use these weapons on the field. Each player can contribute on multiple fronts for outside weapons to use out of the backfield in jet sweeps, they are universal. As one of the biggest strengths of this team, the sky is the limit on the offense in 2022.
In 2014, the Detroit Lions had the 2nd rated defense in the NFL. With talents all over the defensive line, they could bully any team up front. Since that year, the Lions’ defensive line has been awful. Inability to get pressure on the quarterback and unable to stop the run, the defensive line failed and the defense overall fell to the bottom of the league. Under Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell, they started rebuilding the Lions’ defensive line. In two years, they acquired Aidan Hutchinson, Levi Onwuzurkie, Charles Harris, Alim McNeill, and Joshua Paschal. The investment in the defensive line is the start of repairing the defense as a whole. Can the Lions’ defense move up in the league with this investment, time will tell but it is a good start.
One of the big pieces of the defensive line is Romeo Okwara. Romeo Okwara has been a great player for the Lions. However, he has been injured for the last two years. The concerns about his health are warranted. Can he be able to come back this season and make an impact? Will, he is able to stay healthy if he does? These questions will linger until he gets back and we must wait and see. Hopefully, he can contribute to the Lions’.
The Lions’ season will go as far as all three units will go. If one unit like the defense struggles, the Lions will struggle to keep up with the rest of the teams in the NFL and will be difficult to make it to the postseason.
