Lions Training Camp Observations For Day 2
The Detroit Lions are finally in training camp and many questions have been answered from the offseason. First, Will Harris’s position has been switched from safety to cornerback. HD Dan Campbell believes he can excel at this position. Harris did perform much better last season at corner than safety. Next, Ifeatu Melifonwu’s position also has switched from cornerback to safety. Melifonwu has a unique skill set that gives him the opportunity to be universal and play multiple positions on defense.
Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff had a strong day in training camp. He hit multiple wide receivers in stride and looked comfortable in the pocket. Goff continues to build chemistry with Quintez Cephus making a stunning play resulting in a touchdown. The Lions’ wide receivers continued the continuity with Goff and looked well on the field. For the running game, Jamaal Williams and D’Andre Swift split time with the starting group. Swift looked strong in individual drills showing speed and power.
On Defense, the linebackers to start practice were Alex Anzalone and Derrick Barnes. Rotation was key in practice as Chris Board and Jarrad Davis mixed in with Anzalone. Amani Oruwariye was the starting cornerback for the Lions. Will Harris and Jeffrey Okudah rotated out opposite of Oruwariye. Who wins the position opposite of Oruwariye is up in the air as of now. Lions Nation Unite panel gives their thoughts on Lions training camp observations.
