Lions Wide Receivers Are Fire!

One of the biggest changes for the Detroit Lions from 2021 to 2022 is the wide receiver group. In 2021, the Lions’ wide receivers were a weakness on the team and one of the worst in the NFL. In one year, Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell made an effort to upgrade this group. This article discusses the observations in training camps from the wide receiver position.

First, Lions’ WR Amon-Ra St. Brown has been unstoppable at training camp. Every time the ball is thrown his way, he has had blazing speed going upfield for big gains of yards after the catch. St. Brown has been a physical player against his defenders resulting in player skirmishes with the likes of Jeffrey Okudah and Amani Oruwariye. St. Brown has taken a significant jump in 2022.

One of the most underrated WR on the team has been Josh Reynolds. In camp, the connection he has with Jared Goff has been excellent. His ability to separate against the defense is impressive. He has been getting open, catching all the passes thrown his way, and looks smooth in his route tree.

WR DJ Chark is going deep and making spectacular catches for big gains in training camp. He has shown he has the deep threat capability to stretch the field and open the offense that was missing from the 2021 season. DJ Chark has been everything and more as a free agent pickup.

Kalif Raymond looks more comfortable in the Lions’ offense this year compared to last. His route running has been top notch and his speed is easily noticeable on the field. Raymond is a big weapon for Jared Goff even though he is a WR not considered a top threat. Raymond will have a nice role for the Lions’ offense in 2022.

Jameson Williams has not been practicing in camp due to the injury he sustained in college. The 12th overall pick is considered the best WR in the 2022 NFL draft and when healthy, the Lions’ offense will be a terror for defenses down the field.
